Job Description

Reports directly to the Corporate Environmental, Safety and Health (ESH) Director, and indirectly to the Program Manager. Through strict oversight, the Safety Manager provides employees and customer personnel with a safe and healthful workplace that promotes preventing injuries to personnel and damage or loss to property and the environment.  The Safety Manager is the site official responsible for implementation, execution, and compliance with the project Safety, Health, and Environmental plans.  Provides risk mitigation and workplace safety leadership across the site organization.

Provides communication, training and enforcement of policies to staff.
Makes recommendations on safety improvements.
Conducts job hazards analyses to identify hazards and potential risks.
Completes workplace safety audits and ensure remedial action where necessary.
Implement and enforce accident prevention plans and activity hazard analysis, and ensure contractor compliance with all safety and health requirements.
Conducts daily walkthrough of the site ensuring work is being accomplished safely and occupational health is not compromised.
Interprets and applies regulatory requirements applicable to the project scope of work.
Develops site-specific safety programs/plans to include emergency actions, response, evacuation and security plans.
Conducts daily safety and health inspections and mishap investigations.
Provides safety indoctrination to all construction site visitors and new employees.


Material &Equipment Directly Used:


Personal computers, laptops, printing devices, network equipment, MS Office suite of applications, CMMS, and other general office equipment.



Working Environment:


Work is generally conducted in an office environment and could include work at project locations. Duties, however, may involve work outdoors with potential exposure to all climatic conditions.



Physical Activities:


Work may require stooping, climbing, prolonged standing, prolonged sitting, and working with or in areas where a potential exists for exposure to physical dangers and chemical or hazardous agents. May be required to wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).


Education / Certifications:

The Safety Manager shall have a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university and formal education in Safety Program processes (Licensed Safety Professional Certification preferred).
The Safety Manager shall have a minimum of 5 years’ experience as a Safety Manager developing, performing, managing, and supervising safety programs and operations of similar size and complexity.
U.S. citizenship is required.
Active Secret Clearance.
Trained in 29 CFR 1926, 1910, 1926 and NFPA 70e
OSHA & NFPA Certifications preferred



Skills and Experience:

Demonstrated training and management skills.
Demonstrated knowledge of OSHA regulations 29 CFR 1926
Ability to understand, interpret and apply regulatory requirements applicable to the project scope of work.
Possess professional qualifications and knowledge of control of hazardous materials, confined spaces, safety, hazard communication, accident investigation and reporting.
Knowledge of the OSHA 1910 General Industry Standards.
Knowledge of the OSHA 1926 Construction Standards.
NFPA 70e / Electrical Safety compliance knowledge.
Mishap / accident investigation experience.
Specific knowledge and experience in confined space program development, crane safety programs, energized electrical work programs, and hazard identification programs.
Hazard analysis and implementation of hierarchy of controls structure.


Supervisory and Budgetary Responsibilities:

The SM shall have a minimum of 5 years’ experience as a safety manager developing, performing, managing, and supervising safety programs and operations of a workforce of over 200 employees.
